Recipe: Italian Mobster Pasta with Red Sauce


You’ve seen it in movies like “The Godfather” and “Goodfellas”, now make it yourself and enjoy the ultimate classic, Italian Mobster Pasta with Red Sauce. This isn’t the fanciest recipe you’ll find, but it’s an easy one to prepare and a perfect meal to enjoy with family and friends.

What You’ll Need:

Spagetti Pasta

1 can of peeled tomatoes, “Pomodori Pelati” (Italian brands work best)

1 baguette of bread

1 bottle of Red tomato sauce

1 pack of sausages (optional)

Red wine (Italian varietals work best)


Salt and Pepper

Olive Oil

Cooking Prep:

Finely dice garlic into slices or small pieces (of course, a razor blade always works). Tip: smash garlic with the side of large knife to remove outer layer, then dice into fine pieces. Open can of peeled tomatoes and discard two scoops of tomato liquid into sink.

Cooking Directions:

(1) Place medium size pot onto high heat and add olive oil, then add diced garlic and reduce to medium heat. After 1 minute, add in can of peeled tomatoes and a pinch of salt and pepper. After 2-3 minutes add in the bottle of Red pasta sauce and a splash of red wine. Keep heat on medium and mix every 5 minutes. Cooking time: 20 minutes

(2) Heat large pot and add water and a hefty scoop of salt, bring water to boil. Add in 1/2 to 2/3 of the packet of Spaghetti pasta and stir gently. Frequently taste pasta and remove pasta right before al dente. The way you’ve been cooking pasta is all wrong…you want to pull the pasta out right BEFORE it’s actually ready. Note: If you’re Red sauce seems a bit thick, spoon out 2-3 table spoons of the pasta water. Drain pasta and shake mostly dry.

(3) Heat a large skillet with high walls and add olive oil. Add all pasta directly to pan and mix gently, then add red sauce and tomatoes and continue to mix. Reduce heat to low and stir until pasta is completely covered, then serve.

(Optional) If you’d like to add sausage or meatballs to this recipe, by all means do so (in fact, it’s strongly recommended). Before step #2, begin to simmer sausages on medium heat with a cover and add garlic and herbs de provence or assorted herbs. While cooking look for  the sausages to begin to split and once fully browned and cooked through, remove from heat, slice into small chunks and add all contents directly to red sauce.


Using a large fork or serving spoon, spin pasta and serve in a curved plate or flat bowl (trying to maintain a constant twirl). Add a slice of baguette bread to the side and enjoy.
