Celebrity chefs are the newest trend and I recently ran into a mob of Top Chef fanatics on my way to work. San Francisco was the latest stop on a nationwide tour for past participants of Bravo’s hit cooking/reality T.V. show Top Chef. In case you missed it – cooking is now cool. Primetime cool. This is one of the most popular culinary competition shows running and the turnout was a reflection of this. On a bright monday, the Top Chef tour buses unloaded and held a free cooking demo at Justin Herman Plaza near the Ferry Building in San Francisco. Several hundred hungry fans looked on and the demo ran from 10am until 2pm.
Two well known past contestants from the show answered questions from a moderator and from the audience as well. There was oohing and awing, slicing and smashing, and a lot of standing around and picture snapping. Some whispered and giggled – washed over with excitement at seeing someone from T.V. up close and personal – but most just took pictures. Here are a few snapshots of the day and what took place.
